7th Grade Girls

Leaders: Ashley Gaines & Elizabeth Parsons

Welcome
What We're About:

7th Grade Encounter Groups is a place where you can have fun, make friends, learn about God, and be accepted for who you are. Our group of 14 girls start each group by sharing a snack together (ex: homemade cupcakes or hummus and chips) and talking about what's going on in our lives. Then, we open the Bible and interactively discuss a topic each week, such as prayer, the Holy Spirit, body image, or forgiveness. After that, we close out our time together with the sharing of prayer requests and a group prayer.

The girls in the group are from various middle schools, including Hopewell, Webb Bridge, Autrey Mill, Northwestern, and home school. We love to hang out outside of group, too! Some examples of things we've done include a sleepover, a camping trip, and a pool party. This year, we're planning to serve the community together as well. There are a lot of personalities in the group, and each girl is appreciated and valued for who she is. We understand that life as a 7th grader can be tough, and encounter group is a place where you can be encouraged. We sincerely hope you will join us on Wednesday nights at the MYC- we will love you! See ya Wednesday.

Ashley Gaines

Ashley lives in Atlanta where she is a graduate student at Georgia Tech studying Industrial Engineering. She first attended AFUMC as a senior in high school, where she learned about and experienced an amazing, forgiving God who loves unconditionally. She has LOVED volunteering with the AFUMC youth ministry since 2006. She is passionate about youth and their relationships with God and the world. Her experiences in ministry include leading 6th Grade Encounter group last year, working in campus ministry at Georgia Tech [2009-2010], and teaching 8th Grade Sunday School [2006-2007]. She loves singing, playing guitar, and cooking (especially for the girls!)

Elizabeth Parsons

Lizzie Parsons is a senior in high school at Northview High School and is looking forward to attending college next year. At school, she enjoys chorus, acting, and costume designing for her school's productions. She has basically grown up at AFUMC! She and Ashley co-led the 6th Grade Encounter Group last year, too. She has a deep love for cheese dip and bears resemblance to Taylor Swift
